Sovereign pair hit centuries in MTNs

A pair of sovereigns privately placed century bonds this week, with one of the borrowers — Ireland — dipping below the 1% point for the first time at this sort of tenor.

Ireland placed a €131m 0.995% February 2121 note on Wednesday. NatWest Markets ran the deal. The issue price was not disclosed.

At 0.995%, the coupon represents a new low for Ireland at this tenor. Returns have slowly crept down since the sovereign sold its first century bond ...
