ESMA puts euro derivs market at $478tr

The European derivatives market has a combined notional value of $478tr, with 330m transactions outstanding, said the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) after it analysed data from six EU-authorised trade repositories.

The report is ESMA's first on the size of the OTC and exchange-traded markets and uses data collected on February 24. 

European Infrastructure Regulation reporting requirements introduced in February 2014 have made it possible for ESMA to collect the data.
