CME makes move on vol market with futures launch

CME Group is making a play for the volatility derivatives market. On Thursday it announced a new futures contract that will reference the Nasdaq 100 volatility index.

The index measures 30-day implied volatility on the Nasdaq 100 index, as measured by options prices on the index.

CME is a major player in equity derivatives markets and has scored notable recent successes with its mini and micro equity futures.
