Spain applies for over €20bn of SURE cash

Spain has submitted an application for more than €20bn from the EU’s Support to Mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency (SURE) fund.

If the application is successful, the funds will go to supporting Spain’s national programme supporting the wages of furloughed workers and covering employers’ social contributions on workers’ behalf.

Although Spain has applied for more than €20bn, the European Commission will be responsible for determining the amount Spain receives.
