France blocks Taxonomy law at last moment

On Wednesday, just as the European Commission launched its European Green Deal to move Europe to a carbon-neutral and environmentally friendly future, France led a revolt against the Taxonomy which was the centrepiece of the EC's Sustainable Finance Action Plan.

"I think predominantly nuclear is the key issue for France," said Tom Jess, policy adviser at E3G, the environmental thinktank, in Brussels. France gets 70% of its electricity from nuclear power stations. But he added: "We don't know enough about why the French did what they did."
