Vol surges with French election angst as investor concerns mount

Investors have pumped up volatility indicators this week, spooked by the possibility of a Jean-Luc Mélenchon/Marine Le Pen showdown in the upcoming French presidential election.

The VStoxx index, a measure of volatility based on EuroStoxx 50 options prices, reached 23% on Wednesday, its highest level since Donald Trump won the US presidency in November.
