Delegates at the 11th Central European Covered Bond Conference, organised by the Banks Association of Turkey and the Association of German Pfandbrief Banks in Istanbul, yesterday (Thursday) debated the true cost of public supervision of covered bond issuance and, crucially, where deals from emerging markets should trade versus government bonds.

Banks have been signed into the Eu200m loan for food retailer Lenta, after the deal was launched into syndication in August. Arranging banks blamed difficult market conditions for the slow response to the deal, but said they were happy the loan reached completion despite margins being more in line with pre-credit crunch pricing levels.

TNK-BP, the Anglo-Russian oil and gas company, announced this week that it had signed eight banks into a $600m club deal, its second venture in the loan market this year after tapping the market for $1bn earlier in 2007.
