The long-awaited Science-Based Targets standard for financial institutions has arrived. It is one of the most ambitious attempts so far to wrest the financial sector from its path towards climate destruction.

Fifty-eight financial institutions including ABN Amro, HSBC, Standard Chartered and the three major French banks have committed to decarbonising their assets in line with what scientists say is required. They now have tools to do it with.
