Exchange chiefs criticise short selling bans

Exchange leaders have criticised some of the measures that regulators introduced during the height of the Covid-19 crisis that restricted short selling.

As markets whipsawed during March, financial regulators, including those in France, Spain and Italy, introduced short selling bans in a bid to tame volatility. Market participants bitterly opposed the bans, labelling them politically motivated and ineffective.
