Italy sells biggest ever BTP Italia to fund Covid-19 response

Italy completed the sale a five year BTP Italia on Thursday for a record breaking size of €22.297bn to finance measures related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Demand for the product was boosted by the Franco-German EU recovery fund proposal.

Banca IMIBNP Paribas, MPS Capital Services and UniCredit led the sale of the May 2025 BTP Italia, which began on Monday and ended at 12pm CET on Thursday. The bond has a definitive annual (real) coupon rate of 1.4
