Barclays snares the fund-linked crown, in a field where it is a relatively new entrant, principally because of its efforts to support liquidity in the fledgling secondary fund options market. Several end users noted the global hedge fund business, run from London by Richard Ho, reliably shows prices in the secondary market for hedge fund index derivatives, for example. BarCap's aggressive pricing tactics seem to be winning it market share because it is prepared to follow through with liquidity and after-sales service, said one manager in Switzerland. The U.K. shop has also been closely involved in several eye-catching deals this year, thanks to its close relationship with HFR Asset Management and the strength of Antti Suhonen's fund-linked structuring group. In conjunction with the fund manager, BarCap has worked on the first fund to synthetically short a hedge fund index, the first emerging manager fund of funds and tradeable options on the HFR index.
