BPER Banca debuts social framework

BPER Banca overcame its sub-investment grade rating on Thursday, attracting plenty of demand for an inaugural social bond that will fund Covid-19 related lending in southern Italy.

“As a sub-investment grade borrower, we knew it wouldn’t be easy to incorporate the social benefit in the trade,” said a banker involved with the deal. “ESG analysts tend to be quite conservative, and these sort of deals enjoy stronger demand when they’re investment grade.”
