Lufthansa close to €9bn bailout as govvies fund airlines

Deutsche Lufthansa, the airline, is in advanced talks for a €9bn bailout from the German state, amid a flurry of European governments pumping billions of dollars into the ailing airline industry.

Lufthansa said on Thursday that it was in advanced talks with the German state’s new coronavirus-era Economic Stabilisation Fund, known as WSF, for the package, which will include a €3bn loan from KfW and a silent participation agreement from WSF.
