E.U. Fears FTT Could Hurt Clearing

European Union member states have raised concerns that a proposed financial transaction tax on over-the-counter derivatives could discourage market participants from clearing and could threaten clearinghouses’ solvency, according to a discussion document prepared for the group working on tax questions for the European Commission.
