Telling the credit story through cutlery

loan ranger

When Loan Ranger finds out the details of bank meetings, conversation follows a predictable path. Talk is of margins, original issue discounts and tenors. Fascinating stuff, but it means one borrower’s deal can seem much like another’s at times.

WMF, fresh in the primary market last week, have evidently decided that PowerPoint and stacks of documentation do not give lenders the full story of their credit.

Instead, Loan Ranger understands that the German kitchenware producer bought coffee machines and cutlery along to their presentation.

It’s hard to envisage exactly what use cutlery has in helping the meeting go smoothly - Loan Ranger always prefers keeping knives well away from negotiations - but providing coffee is surely a masterstroke to help lenders digest yet another 30 pages of loan documents.

So now that WMF has raised the bar, what are other prospective borrower’s excuses?

Let’s look at some of the products on the market that could be used to create more interactive presentations. Aluminium, pharmaceuticals and industrial shelving… maybe best to stick with making that OID appealing.
