Kommunalbanken mandated banks for a new two year dollar benchmark on Tuesday afternoon, joining the Kingdom of Sweden at the short end of the curve. Sweden is set to sell a three year deal on Tuesday afternoon.

A smaller than expected buyback of Portuguese debt on Tuesday is unlikely to dent the sovereign’s course towards a bailout exit in May as eurozone periphery yields remain on a firm downward trajectory. Meanwhile, a Greek return to capital markets before European elections in May — hinted at by a government minister this week — would most likely be in dollars, said bankers.

A partial buyback of Portugal’s 3.35% October 2015 bonds on Tuesday — the second time in a month that the sovereign has sought to reduce the paper’s outstanding volume — could help it print at the longer end of the curve later in the year. The operation comes a day before the sovereign auctions bills and in a week where Spain holds auctions of longer dated debt.

The International Finance Corporation sold the second bond from its Indian rupee linked bond programme on Thursday, a five year bond. The deal, the largest ever offshore rupee bond, enjoyed strong investor interest and the IFC may follow up with longer dated trades in the future.
