Sri Lankan Airlines has agreed a $175m debut syndicated Islamic loan with five Middle East banks, opening the door for other potential Sri Lankan borrowers to tap the Islamic market. The four-year dual tranche facility was denominated in dollars and UAE dirhams.

Last week's $ 1 .3bn of sukuk issuance took the 2012 first half total above $65bn to a record $65.33bn, according to IFIS data. This was a 20.9% increase on the $54.05bn issued in the same period last year – and bringing the running total to almost 70% of the $94.40bn issued throughout the whole of 2011.

Ethica specialises in Islamic finance training and certification and has over 20,000 paying users in 44 countries. DeLorenzo joins other well known scholars Zubair Usmani and Ashraf Muneeb in acting as an advisor to Ethica.

Local currency rating on a national scale assumes the national government to be least risky, which is therefore implicitly assigned a 'کAAA' rating. These ratings represent an entity's ability to meet its domestic obligations in the local currency.
