Zambia becomes third African sovereign to try for loan

The Republic of Zambia is in talks with banks for a syndicated loan, just two weeks after Tanzania approached banks for its own record-breaking $700m facility.

Zambia has asked banks for a $600m loan with a tenor of up to five years. 

If Zambia decides to take a loan, it will be the sovereign's first syndicated facility since 1984, when it signed a $32m 15 year loan from Chemical Bank and KBC, according to Dealogic.
