Lithuania breaks issuance record with €2bn trade

The Republic of Lithuania joined the ranks of top tier emerging markets issuers proving their access to bond markets in the teeth of the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday, as it broke its issuance record with a €2bn dual tranche trade.

In March, Lithuania’s ministry of finance, along with other government departments, signalled the need for a €5bn stimulus and health support plan to fight Covid-19. The proposal involved a €5bn increase in Lithuania’s borrowing. Not all of that need will come from international borrowers however.
