FCA says no to UK shorting ban despite European crackdown

The Financial Conduct Authority, the City regulator, has said it will not introduce a short selling ban, since there was no proof that short selling was responsible for the recent market falls.

Equities around the world have crashed due to the economic impact of the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus around the world, which has led to the shutdown of entire countries, including the UK. The FTSE 100 has fallen more than 30% this year.
