EIB worries it could be drawn into banking rules

The European Investment Bank (EIB) asked the EU Commission to keep its exemption from EU banking regulation, in a letter sent on January 12.

National promotional banks are exempted from the EU Capital Requirements Directive (CRD), the main plank of European banking regulation. But the EU Commission, in a regulatory package unveiled in November, said that these banks should follow an “alternative framework of prudential requirements and supervision”.
