Barclays Capital has hired Peter Toolan, v.p. in interest rate derivatives marketing at Merrill Lynch in New York, in a similar role. Toolan was between jobs and could not be reached for comment. Ed Somekh, managing director and head of corporate risk management and derivatives at Barclays, to whom Toolan will report, did not return calls.
Toolan is thought to be joining because of recent departures from Barclay's corporate derivatives marketing group, including Scott Watson, who moved to Goldman Sachs (DW, 5/2) and William Gleason, who joined Deutsche Bank (DW, 3/7). Michael DuVally, spokesman at Merrill Lynch in New York, declined comment on whether Toolan will be replaced.
