Equity Trader Quits Merrill In U.S.

Daniel Bystrom, a director in equity derivatives trading at Merrill Lynch in New York, has left the firm.

Daniel Bystrom, a director in equity derivatives trading at Merrill Lynch in New York, has left the firm. Bystrom, who traded index options, exchange traded funds and options on exchange-traded funds, had taken on responsibility for merging the index and ETF option businesses at the beginning of last year, according to an official. He previously traded volatility arbitrage on Merrill's proprietary trading desk before the operation cut back its equity derivatives presence (DW, 1/13/03). Bystrom, who declined comment, has not yet joined another firm. Officials observing the situation expect Bystrom to resurface at a hedge fund. Michael DuVally, spokesman at Merrill in New York, declined comment.
