Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein's Mark Mallia, Asian head of credit products in Tokyo, will join Morgan Stanley in the coming weeks in a new role as an executive director in the Asia-Pacific investment grade and high-yield trading and structuring group in Tokyo. Mallia has joined as the senior trader and product manager for U.S. and European bond and credit derivatives trading in the Asian time zone, Robert Breden, head of Asian investment grade trading and structuring at Morgan Stanley in Tokyo, said in an e-mail to DW.
"Mark's hire highlights our strong commitment to providing Asian-based clients quality service and execution for global products in Asian hours," said Breden, to whom Mallia will report. Breden has overseen a build up in credit derivatives in the region, which led to the establishment of a credit trading desk in Hong Kong last year (DW, 5/4).
"He's been successful in Japan for a long time being 'the foreign bond guy'," said one credit head at a rival firm in Tokyo. Mallia has helped boost Dresdner's credit business and distribution platform in the region, in particular, by building a niche in U.S. and European products, the rival credit head added.
Nuala Connolly, spokeswoman at Dresdner in Tokyo, declined all comment.
