UBS was selected for the wide scope of its business, technological capabilities and innovation. Several end users singled out its competitive pricing and structuring capabilities for such products as target redemption notes and CPPI-linked instruments. "Their stock selection is excellent," said an asset manager in Taiwan, who purchased 10-year target-redemption notes on strong-performing Asian equities from UBS. The notes were called after only a year and posted double-digit returns. The sales effort led by Min Park, managing director and Asian head of equity risk management in Hong Kong, was highlighted by clients for its after-sales follow-up, which they said places it ahead of rivals offering similar structuring resources. The firm has consistently been a top market player in the China A-share access derivative market. It also recently became the first firm to structure equity-linked deposits, distributed via onshore banks, for investors in China. To further strengthen the scope of its market access derivatives business in the region, the firm has applied for futures licensing in Taiwan, Thailand and India, which will give it greater reach for hedging underlying positions. Asian market watchers also noted that in spite of recent controversy surrounding UBS and regulators in India, the firm is continuing with its market access business as usual in the country as well as other regional markets.
