Portfolio managers from Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Sparx Asset Management have formed Four Seasons Asia Investment and are preparing to launch their first hedge fund. According to DW sister paper Alternative Investment News, the Singapore-based firm is run by Shigeka Koda and Kahori Ando. Their fund, a Japan-focused long/short equity strategy, is in the pre-launch phase, said Koda, declining to elaborate.
The fund will invest in Japanese equities with market caps of more than USD20 million, according to a prime brokerage document. The long book will consist of 20-50 names with holding periods from six to 36 months. The short portfolio, which will be used for hedging, will have an average of 10-60 positions.
Koda was at Goldman for 14 years, most recently managing a Japanese large-cap equity portfolio. Previously, he managed small-cap equity and worked in global fixed-income institutional sales and emerging market debt trading. Ando spent 12 years at Sparx as a senior Japanese equity manager.
