Shooter Fund Management, a London-based hedge fund firm, expects its Shooter Bear Fund to more than double in size in the coming months. The fund is designed to protect investors from declining equity markets. The firm has seen demand from institutional investors and sophisticated family offices that are seeking to strip out beta from portfolios while maintaining alpha on the downside, said David Beddington, chief operating officer and director of marketing.
The strategy holds around USD100 million in a pooled fund and managed accounts, but some investors are interested in making large allocations: "Because of the size of the tickets, if we close one of them, the [fund] size could double," he added. Beddington said he expects most investment to come via managed accounts.
Shooter also runs a volatility arbitrage fund (DW, 4/28).
