MTS extension marks start of Russian thaw
A bank presentation by mobile phone operator MTS Mobile TeleSystems, which is seeking to extend part of a $1.3bn loan, took place yesterday (Tuesday) in London, marking the first such meeting for any Russian borrower in 2009. The progress on MTS’s extension and a fresh batch of request for proposals (RFPs) being circulated this week provided the first signs of life this year in the country’s loan market, although most bankers remained sceptical about its chances of revival.
