Ahli United first to kick off forward start trend — in early 2008

The $1.5bn forward start facility for Qatar Telecom, which will be launched into syndication this week, may not quite be the first such facility to be done in the Middle East — or indeed elsewhere — as previously claimed by loans bankers. Before the refinancing structure became popular in western Europe and the term forward start was coined, Bahrain’s Ahli United Bank completed a very similar type of transaction last year, officials said this week.
