Goldman Sachs has hired Karen Fang, the AIG Financial Products managing director
regarded as a major contributor to the U.S. structured investments business. Fang is tipped to be taking a new role with responsibility for cross-asset class structured investments, reporting into senior officials in Goldman's equity and fixed income derivatives groups. Details of the role could not immediately be determined. Fang was traveling and could not be reached and Goldman and AIG officials did not respond to messages by press time. Fang joined AIG from Deutsche Bank in June 2005 and helped set up AIG's registered shelf. One structured equity market watcher described her as "a rising star" and said she is well-regarded among peers.
