IDB Islamic loans set projects in motion in eight member states

The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has approved long term Shariah-compliant project finance facilities totalling $646m for eight separate sovereign borrowers.

The majority of the money went to borrowers in the Middle East. Tunisia, which signed facilities totalling Td125m ($83.7m) from the IDB in March 2012, is the largest beneficiary of the deals. The sovereign borrowed $200m to build a power station in Radés, 9km from Tunis.
