  • Loans bankers are looking for silver linings in the imminent prospect of deeper Western sanctions against Russia. At least the market has shut down in August, when Russians take their summer holidays. No deals would have been done anyway, so no matter. But the situation will not be over by the autumn, and August is not the listless month many market participants assume.
  • Fubon Bank China is in the market with a $200m three year loan for which it is hoping to attract Taiwanese lenders. The borrower has picked Bank of Taiwan as the bookrunner and mandated lead arranger for the offering.
  • GF Securities closed its debut offshore syndication at HK$1.12bn ($144.5m), almost double the launch size of HK$$600m. The deal was boosted by the company’s rarity factor that helped bring more banks on board.
  • The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has agreed two dollar loans in central Asian countries, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.
  • Taiwan Cement Corp’s $1bn loan, which launched into syndication at the beginning of July, is expected to go up in size after getting a great response. Ten banks have already committed to the deal and 10 more processing their approvals, according to bankers.
  • 7 Days Group Holdings has closed its fundraising at $300m, opting to fully exercise a $50m greenshoe, as the deal was oversubscribed thanks to relationship banks piling in.
