A slow start to the year in the currency and a hunt for yield are likely to benefit sterling trades in the coming weeks, according to syndicate bankers.

Russia's privately owned bank Promsvyazbank has launched a cash tender for its subordinated $200m 11.75% 2016s, its senior $400m 8.5% 2017s and its subordinated $600m 10.20% 2019s. The move is a show of strength from the bank as well as a routine management of the bank’s own liquidity and capital, said a liability management specialist on the note.

Ho Sha Lam, the wife of Quanta Computer founder and chairman Barry Lam, raised $171.5m by offloading some of the company’s global depository shares (GDSs) through a block trade executed on February 4. The deal was priced at the bottom of guidance, but the tight discount meant this was expected by the placing agent from the beginning.
