The European junk bond market was buzzing in the last full week before Easter with eight deals on the brink of pricing and a further five still meeting investors.

Privately-owned food producer Boparan is on track to raise a £695m-equivalent junk bond in sterling and euros to fund its takeover of Northern Foods. Price talk for its £400m tranche is in the 9.875% area, while the £295m-equivalent euro piece is expected in the 9.75% area.

French container shipping company CMA CGM was close to selling an equivalent of $800m senior unsecured notes on Thursday to refinance its existing euro and dollar bonds.

German gas, electricity and meter provider Elster is likely to price its Eu250m seven year non-call three senior unsecured bond on Thursday, after price talk circulated in the morning.

German internet provider Freenet is on track to price Eu400m of five year unsecured notes with a yield of 7.25% on Wednesday. Guidance was 7.25%-7.50%, but one banker working on the deal said that pricing should come at the tight end of the range.
