Swedish cable operator Com Hem sold Skr3.492bn (€383m) of senior secured bonds on Thursday, enabling it to repay the senior secured bridge loan it obtained in July.

Total debt outstanding in the European speculative grade market has grown by 16% since last year, said Moody’s in a special comment yesterday. The total amount of bonds and loans outstanding, rated by Moody’s, is $601bn, borrowed by 262 European companies.

German airline Air Berlin plans to raise €100m-€150m with a high yield bond issue aimed at German retail and institutional investors, the company said today.

German publisher Bastei Lübbe sold €30m of 6.75% five year notes on Friday, at a time when several other companies hoping to issue Mittelstandsanleihe (Mittelstand bonds) had to pull their deals due to difficult market conditions.

The only company expected to issue a high yield bond in Europe in the near future has cancelled the deal. Kinetic Concepts, the US woundcare products maker, has abandoned the euro tranche of its $1.65bn bond offering.

The US high yield market is expecting Kinetic Concepts and Chesapeake Oilfields to price their deals, totalling $2.15bn, today (Tuesday), while MarkWest and River Rock are also lining up to issue $705m.
