US high yield issuance has slowed this week, which some investors thought a welcome breather after a frenzy of deals had priced tightly last week, even down to low triple-C rated paper.

German diversified holding company Franz Haniel announced the buyback of €215.613m of its €1bn 6.75% 2014 high yield bonds on February 10.

European high yield investors have soaked up new issues at both ends of the credit spectrum in the past week, though the volume of flow has been slight. Money keeps flowing into funds and they have fewer bargains to distract them in the secondary markets, now that spreads have tightened.

While most European high yield companies are in their blackout phases, leading to a dry spell in the new issue market, the secondary market is tightening.
