Secondary volumes down, prices up in Q4

Secondary trading volumes in the European loan market in the fourth quarter of 2010 were down 38.2% year-on-year to Eu14.75bn, according to a European loan volume survey carried out by Markit.

Although aggregate volume for 2010, at Eu71.6bn, was slightly larger than the total for 2009 — Eu64.9bn — quarterly volumes have decreased consecutively since the first quarter of 2010.

Market participants said that sovereign concerns in Europe had initially contributed to the decline in volumes.
