Financial Stocks is considering a possible standalone foray into the collateralized loan obligation market and the asset-backed securities, collateralized debt obligation market. According to Securitization News, a CIN sister publication, the Cincinnati-based alternative manager with $4.5 billion in assets under management is looking to leverage its experience and contacts into an expanded CDO platform, said Stephan Kuppenheimer, managing director and newly appointed head of structured finance. The firm already manages $4.1 billion of CDOs.

Up to now, it has only launched CDOs through joint ventures with other firms, said Kuppenheimer, who recently joined from Merrill Lynch, where he was co-head of U.S. structured credit products. He declined to comment further on the plans. Financial Stocks, however, does plan to continue with its existing partnerships.
