Three former Deutsche Bank professionals have teamed up to launch a New York-based manager, Overseas Advisors, which will both invest in and hedge with derivatives. Luis Sanchez, co-founder of the group, said the company hopes to raise USD500 million for its first two ventures. The group will first launch a vehicle to invest in commodity-based emerging market economies and use derivatives to hedge the investments. Venture number two will be a fund invested in the equity tranche of collateralized debt obligations, baked by a range of assets.
Sanchez will work alongside Kerry MacNamara, both of whom worked in Deutsche Bank's securitization group in New York, and Ralf Voellmer, who was involved in the launch of the German firm's first hedge fund. They hope to have their business up and running by the first quarter of 2006, after adding a senior ratings analyst.
