ABN AMRO is setting up an internal hedge fund named Merebis Capital Management. The fund's partners are Paris Badekas, former global head of equity derivatives trading at ABN, and Gary Wolens, previously global head of equity derivatives. The pair are joined by Jean Maigrot and Hugh Wyatt, both also previously at ABN's investment banking division. Their roles could not be determined. Badekas, Maigrot and Wyatt did not return messages and Wolens referred calls to Mark Bennewith, spokesman for ABN, who said the group is not yet ready to make any comment on size, strategy or its precise connection to ABN AMRO. He added the fund's launch is pending board approval.
