Cantor Fitzgerald has hired Ian Silva, a credit derivatives trader for Banc of America Securities in London, and transferred Mike Rohan, a government bond trader from Cantor's London-based fixed income group, to join its growing New York credit derivatives brokerage team, according to Dan LaVecchia, executive managing director and director of U.S. operations.
Silva, who left BofA about five months ago, is scheduled to start this week. Rohan, who has worked in Cantor's fixed income group for more than a decade, will also join the New York team within the next week. Silva and Rohan will report to LaVecchia. Rohan reported to Shaun Lynn, head of fixed income for Cantor Fitzgerald in London.
The hires are part of Cantor's rebuilding initiative that began about four months ago in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, in which the firm's World Trader Center offices were destroyed and many of its staff killed. LaVecchia said he is actively looking for one more broker to round out the team, which will have four brokers when the hiring is complete.
While at BofA, Silva reported to Paul van der Maas, managing director and head of structured credit products in London. Calls to van der Maas were not returned.
