Bear Stearns recently moved Wee Siang Lee, associate director of credit derivatives in London, to the Tokyo desk in a similar role as part of the firm's buildup in credit derivatives in Japan. He reports to Ralph Orciuoli, head of credit trading in Tokyo. Lee said he will focus on structured transactions, such as trading baskets of credit-default swaps. "We're getting a lot of inquiries," he added.
Bear Stearns has revamped its operation in Tokyo in recent months, with a number of senior appointments, including Lenny Feder, head of trading in Tokyo (DW, 3/8) and hiring Orciuoli from Bank of America (DW, 3/31). "Bear [Stearns is] really focusing on Asia," added Lee. Orciuoli was traveling and could not be reached.
In London, Lee reported to Andrew Whittle, senior managing director of credit derivatives. Whittle said Matt Bristow, structured credit trader, has assumed Lee's responsibilities.
