Commerz Preps Hybrid Note Debut For Asia

Commerzbank plans to sell hybrid structured notes in Asia for the first time in the coming months. "With the low interest rate environment, we're going to push investment products harder next year," said Mike Plant, senior dealer in Hong Kong. The notes will combine interest rate and credit derivatives.

"We're already getting inquiries," added Plant, noting that the bank will likely close its first deals early next year. The trading and structuring of the products will be handled out of Tokyo.

Commerzbank's move follows that of several other derivatives houses in Hong Kong, including Barclays Capital Asia, ING Financial Markets and Société Générale Asia, which started marketing similar notes earlier this year (DW, 4/14).
