The third meeting of the Merton Miller Group (MMG) was convened in New York on the weekend of December 7 and 8. The widely reported breakdowns in public accounting in the year prior, and the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in the summer to facilitate a "corporate cleanup" made the issue of accounting woes and corporate malfeasance ripe for the MMG treatment as 2002 came to a close.
