Barclays Capital in London has hired Ulrich Schlumberger, emerging markets equity derivatives trader at Merrill Lynch, as a senior trader in a similar role. Schlumberger will report to Dixit Joshi, global head of equity derivatives trading. Schlumberger will likely work on sales and trade origination as well as trading in order to build up Barclays' emerging markets business, said market officials. Schlumberger could not be reached.
Kerry Kennedy, spokeswoman for Barclays Capital, confirmed the hire, declining further comment. Patrick Meyer, spokesman for Merrill, declined comment.
