Calyon has hired two equity derivative marketers from SG Corporate & Investment Banking in Hong Kong in a bid to expand client coverage. Anita Li and David Ng joined as directors in equity derivatives marketing, according to Dickson Cheung, managing director and Asia ex-Japan head of equity derivatives marketing and sales at Calyon in Hong Kong.
Li will focus on white label and guaranteed fund products and Ng will handle private placement transactions, targeting clients such as insurers and corporate treasury departments, a new focus for the group. Cheung said the firm is also planning to strengthen its financial engineering team, with two hires in the coming months. New entrants this year have made the Hong Kong structured products market more competitive, particularly in retail products, but players have still been adding resources despite tightening margins, he noted. "It's like a digital game--you're either in or you're out," he said.
Laurent Tison, spokesman at SG, did not return messages by press time.
