MTN-Orascom M&A deal cheers loans bankers

Confirmation on Wednesday that South African telecoms firm MTN is in talks to buy all or at least part of Egypt’s Orascom Telecom, in a deal estimated to be worth $9bn, raised the possibility of a new M&A loan hitting the market shortly. Bankers are pinning their hopes on an acquisition going through, as a potential new money deal would provide the market with a much-needed boost.
