Lee leaves J.P. Morgan for Deutsche
Philip Lee, chief executive officer and head of investment banking for Southeast Asia at J.P. Morgan has left the bank after 18 years. He will be joining Deutsche Bank in a senior role.
J.P. Morgan recently bolstered its Southeast Asian offering appointing Rob Priestly to a newly created position as chief executive officer for Asean.
Malhotra to head Asia syndicate at StanChart
Ashish Malhotra will join Standard Chartered as head of syndicate for Asia. He will be based in Hong Kong and report to Aaron Russell Davison, head of global bond syndicate for the bank.
Malhotra left Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BoA-Merrill) last week, less than a month after he was promoted to head of DCM for Asia. Before this he was head of Asia DCM syndicate at BoA-Merrill.
Aldcroft named CitiTrust CEO
Stewart Aldcroft will take on the role of chief executive officer for CitiTrust, a provider of trustee services to several Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) constituent funds, Approved Pooled Investment Funds (APIF) and SFC unit trusts in Hong Kong.
He will report to David Russell, regional head of securities and fund services Asia Pacific. Aldcroft joined Citi in August 2011 and has been based in Hong Kong since 1985. He has also worked for the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association and the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA).
BoC HK names deputy chief executive
Zhu Yanlai has been appointed deputy chief executive for strategic planning and management at BoC Hong Kong, effective April 15.
In addition to her current role in the economics and strategic planning department, she will take charge of the chief executive’s office and the renminbi business.
Zhu worked as the general manager of economics and strategic planning at the bank since October 2001 and was appointed assistant chief executive in May 2010. Before joining BoC, she worked at Royal Bank of Canada and Nesbitt Burns, Bank of Montreal Group.
Chang to head Apac prime finance at Citi
Joseph Chang will take on the role of head of prime finance in Asia Pacific at Citi. He is based in Hong Kong and will report to Nick Roe, global head of prime finance and Nadir Mahmud, Asia Pacific head of markets.
He moves to the role from his position as regional business manager for the equities division and Asia Pacific head of equity trading at the bank.
StanChart hires head of China financials research
Dorris Chen has been appointed head of China financials research at Standard Chartered, effective immediately. She will report to Erwin Sanft, head of Hong Kong and China equity research.
Chen has worked on the sell side for more than ten years, most recently in a similar role at BNP Paribas. She has also covered the China insurance sector at China International Capital Corporation (CICC).
ANZ names Asia loan syndication heads
Chris Raciti has been appointed head of loan syndications for North Asia, heading up a team of eight people and Carl Roberts has been named head of loan syndications for South and Southeast Asia – a newly created role – with a team of six.
Andrew Harward will head loan syndications for specialised finance and property funds in Asia, and all three will report to John Corrin, global head of loan syndications at ANZ, according to an internal memo seen by Asiamoney PLUS.
BNY Mellon AM hires team from ING IM
BNY Mellon Asset Management Japan is appointing a six-person equities team. The new hires will join from ING Investment Management and be based in Tokyo. Led by Miyuki Kashima, the team includes investment managers, analysts and a trader.
Kashima joined ING IM from Merrill Lynch Mercury (now BlackRock) in mid-2009. Before this she was head of Japanese equities at Chase Trust Bank.
In her new role she will report locally to Shizu Kishimoto, representative director and president of BNY Mellon Asset Management Japan and functionally to Alan Harden, CEO for BNY Mellon’s Asia Pacific investment management business.
Lam to head North Asia at Coutts
David Lam has joined Coutts as managing director and head of North Asia, effective from May 29. He will be based in Hong Kong with responsibility for Hong Kong, Greater China and the Philippines. He will report to Alex Classen, CEO of Coutts International.
He joins the firm from GAM, Hong Kong, where he was regional head of clients and head of business. Before that he worked for five years at Merrill Lynch, Hong Kong, as director of private wealth services for Asia Pacific in the International Private Client Group (IPCG).
Ignatius Chong, who was in charge of the North Asia team on an interim basis will return to his usual role as market head, Hong Kong and chairman of the Coutts Institute, Asia.
