FIG bankers this week welcomed a new Pimco fund dedicated to contingent capital instruments as a healthy development for the market. Asset manager Fleming Family & Partners is to provide initial capital to Pimco for the fund.

Investors are increasingly bullish on credit conditions for financial institutions, although the majority are worried about asset encumbrance, according to Fitch Ratings’ latest quarterly investor survey.

Moody’s review of systemic support for UK financial institutions, the latest in a series of European country analyses by the agency, could reduce the size of the investor base for UK FIG debt. Bankers told EuroWeek that the review was already reflected in market prices, but they worried that downgrades might affect demand for senior unsecured bank paper.
