EDF to start corporate green bond ‘waterfall’

Electricité de France aims to sell its first green bond next week — a deal that may herald a bulging pipeline for the product. As many as half a dozen or more corporate green bonds could be launched in the next three to eight months, writes Jon Hay. Private sector banks, too, are believed to be considering deals.

Green bonds have taken off in 2013 among supranational, agency and municipal issuers anxious to burnish their credentials as environmentally or socially responsible actors. But so far, very few companies or private sector issuers of any kind have followed suit.
